Marriage counseling, also known as couples therapy and relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Thriveworks marriage counseling in Norwalk, CT is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples. Some examples of common focuses within Marriage counseling include:
Marriage counseling works by helping couples identify and better navigate their unique challenges. Following an initial assessment of the couple in terms of strengths and needs, the therapist would then discuss their therapeutic goals and any possible approaches or ways of working together as therapist and couple.Couples attend sessions together, whether they meet in person or by video. In addition to regular marriage counseling sessions, each partner may also be asked to attend a few individual sessions to supplement their progress. This will allow their counselor to get to know each individual better, assess each of their personal needs, and develop the very best treatment plan moving forward.
Marriage counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage counseling for 12 weeks. However, marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress. Marriage counselors and therapists at Thriveworks in Norwalk, CT work with their clients to create goals, decide on ideal timelines, and establish treatment plans.
Research shows that around 40% to 50% of all marriages in the United States will end in divorce or separation. If you are wondering what that breakdown looks like, you might be shocked. Every 13 seconds, there is one divorce in America. Shocking, right? When turmoil within a marriage starts to get out of control, many couples decide divorce is the best option for them. However, many conflicts that couples face can be resolved through effective communication, respect for each other, and the guidance of a professional.
Marriage counseling at Thriveworks Counseling in Norwalk, CT might be the answer you and your spouse are looking for. Our counselors can help you learn better communication to help you push past the arguments you have, no matter how big or small. If you are having trouble in your marriage and don’t want to end in divorce, consider working with us. Just call our office to get started. We will be here.
There are many different reasons to pursue marriage counseling. Every situation is unique, and every situation has the ability to be fixed. Consider this: Have you both tried working through your issues with little to no resolution? Are you both tired of bickering? Do you wish there was another way to get your spouse to understand you? If you answered yes, or relate to any of these questions, marriage counseling might be right for you. Some of the more common issues that have led to some couples to start therapy:
The little things can either make or break a marriage. Everyday interactions make a huge difference. Simple things like affection before heading out to work or a ‘thank you’ for making dinner can show the love and appreciation you have for your partner. When spouses are ready to take an honest look into their marriage and work towards making a positive change, a marriage therapist can help you improve your relationship.
