About
As a bi-racial woman who has experienced trauma and loss of loved ones, I am able to connect with those who are trying to rebuild themselves, and find joy in their everyday lives.
Hey, my name is Dr. Kayla Thorne! I have received my Doctorate in Human Services, Master of Social Work, and Bachelor of Arts in sociology. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2025 and have provided therapy to children, adolescents, and teenagers since 2023 as a Supervisee in Social Work. I have also provided therapy to college-aged students and adults since 2025. I enjoy the wide variety of clients that I work with who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, and life changes. I work with the clients to set goals for therapy and help them achieve those goals throughout the therapy timeframe.
I use a cognitive-behavioral therapy approach and have specialized training in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, and stress. I focus on active listening, cognitive restructuring, and assigning homework (as needed) between sessions to support continued growth.
Life can be challenging to navigate at times, especially when you feel anxious, stressed, or alone. I know it can be hard to find someone to trust to talk about your experiences when it seems impossible to deal with the life stressors. I'll be there to meet you where you are during those tough times, so feel free to book a session with me.

I enjoy utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, as it helps individuals with depression, anxiety, and relationship concerns. The approach primarily focuses on the present moment, helping individuals understand and change current patterns of thinking and behavior that may be causing distress or dysfunction. By addressing immediate concerns, CBT helps individuals deal with their problems in a practical and timely manner.
I provide coping skills to decrease the symptoms of depression and anxiety. I utilize mindfulness, breathing exercises, and guided imagery.
I can tell an individual is making meaningful progress by weekly scaling their anxiety and depression symptoms, reviewing the treatment plan and achievements, and utilizing an emotional thermometer.
Clients can review sent psychoeducational materials and complete homework to supplement their learning process.
Clients can reflect on what strengths and needs they have and what goals they would like to work on.
Individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.
Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.
Yes, individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.
