About
As a bi-racial woman who has experienced trauma and loss of loved ones, I am able to connect with those who are trying to rebuild themselves, and find joy in their everyday lives.
Hey, my name is Dr. Kayla Thorne! I have received my Doctorate in Human Services, Master of Social Work, and Bachelor of Arts in sociology. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2025 and have provided therapy to children, adolescents, and teenagers since 2023 as a Supervisee in Social Work. I have also provided therapy to college-aged students and adults since 2025. I enjoy the wide variety of clients that I work with who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, and life changes. I work with the clients to set goals for therapy and help them achieve those goals throughout the therapy timeframe.
I use a cognitive-behavioral therapy approach and have specialized training in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, and stress. I focus on active listening, cognitive restructuring, and assigning homework (as needed) between sessions to support continued growth.
Life can be challenging to navigate at times, especially when you feel anxious, stressed, or alone. I know it can be hard to find someone to trust to talk about your experiences when it seems impossible to deal with the life stressors. I'll be there to meet you where you are during those tough times, so feel free to book a session with me.

Treating depression begins with an understanding of the causes of depression, along with sharing information about the basic steps available to reduce the symptoms of sadness and fatigue. There are psychological and emotional factors to depression, but there are also neurochemical factors to consider. Clients benefit tremendously from understanding the unique aspects of their experience, and they experience improvement by modifying some everyday routines in their lives.
In working through depression, clients are often taught a variety of self-awareness and mindfulness skills that help them intentionally reduce their symptoms and improve daily functioning.
In addition to various psychological assessment tools, clients treating their depression can identify improvement through improved mood and emotional control, the resumption of a healthy diet and sleeping patterns, and an increased interest in the basic goals of life.
Clients can supplement their time in depression counseling by practicing the mindfulness skills they have been taught, and by paying attention to their body's needs for good nutrition, adequate sleep, and physical exercise.
To prepare for your first depression counseling session, you can set aside some time to journal about the events that led up to your depression. Pay special attention to the triggers that initiated the depression as well as to patterns of emotions that ebb and flow which often impair normal functioning.

Anxiety & depression counseling from Thriveworks Manassas therapists can last for a few weeks, months, or longer, dependent on the severity of one’s anxiety or depression as well as their needs and preferences.
Anxiety and depression usually differ from simply anxiousness or sadness by how strong the emotions are and how long they persist. These pervasive thoughts intrude on your every-day life and keep you from focusing on what’s going on around you. Anxiety and depression are common mood disorders that affect approximately 1 in 4 adults in the United States during their lifetime.
Without proper treatment, anxiety and depression symptoms can linger for some time, possibly months. Along with the emotional challenges, anxiety and depression can cause physical symptoms as well, such as fatigue, insomnia and stomach issues.
When they occur, these symptoms can interfere with your daily life, forcing you to postpone or cancel your plans. Fortunately, anxiety and depression respond well to treatment, such as the counseling we offer at Thriveworks Manassas, VA in Prince William County and near Wellington.
With treatment, some people see improvement in as little as few weeks. The speed at which you’ll see improvement will vary, though, based on the specific symptoms you have and how severe they are.
Our counselors and psychologists at Thriveworks Manassas in Prince William have a deep desire to assist you in your struggles with anxiety and depression. We have insights in the unique struggles your facing dealing with the intrusive thoughts and emotions brought on by these mood disorders. This care and commitment helps us serve you better and provide you with the assistance you need.
This desire to help is teamed with a Masters level education that helps our therapists understand how anxiety and depression affect the mind. This training prepares us to offer proven solutions to your challenges. Our counseling experts will meet with you to find out more about your specific symptoms. Because every person is different, we will develop an individualized plan that focuses on your needs and helps you return to a more peaceful life.
You don’t have to be controlled by anxiety and depression. You can choose to make your life better, to make it more of what you want it to be. If you are looking for Prince William counseling, you can start by contacting Thriveworks Manassas for the expert support and guidance you need.
