As someone who grew up in the field of mental health, I have come to appreciate the therapeutic value of allowing others to express themselves without reservation as well as affording them the respect and dignity they duly deserve.
My name is Elliott Brown, and I am a licensed professional counselor with over 24 years of experience. I enjoy working with adults and children who have a host of issues to unpack: anxiety, depression, trauma, divorce, relationship troubles, work headaches, grieving, and getting older, to name a few. When explaining the process of therapy to clients, I often use the "puzzle analogy": a) you dump the pieces out on the table, b) I help you look for the edges and other patterns, and c) you develop a clearer picture about how the rest of the puzzle needs to be solved.
My approach aims to provide you with a sense of relief in expressing often unpleasant thoughts and feelings, while also helping you recognize the themes embedded within these expressions. In doing so, you may develop a greater awareness of the world around you and, as a consequence, become more resilient in the face of adversity.
Please let me know how I can be of help to you. Life's problems aren't something we have to tackle alone. Therapy doesn't have to look a certain way; sessions can be a time to unwind and talk about whatever you see fit. Above all, I hope that you will leave therapy a more insightful and happier person.

MBCT is an evidence-based therapy that combines mindfulness meditation practices with principles of cognitive therapy. It aims to help individuals break the cycle of recurrent depression by developing greater awareness of thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations.
MBCT teaches individuals to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgment, cultivating a non-reactive stance toward internal experiences. It integrates mindfulness practices, such as meditation and mindful movement, with cognitive restructuring techniques to prevent relapse into depression.
MBCT is designed for individuals who have experienced recurrent depression or have a history of depressive episodes. It can also be helpful for individuals experiencing symptoms of anxiety, stress, chronic pain, and other mental health concerns.
Research has shown that MBCT is effective in reducing the risk of relapse in individuals with recurrent depression. It has been found to be as effective as maintenance antidepressant medication in preventing depressive relapse, especially for individuals with a history of three or more episodes of depression.
MBCT is typically delivered in an eight-week structured program, typically consisting of weekly sessions lasting 2-3 hours each, along with daily home practice of mindfulness exercises. The duration and frequency of therapy may vary depending on individual needs and treatment goals.
While both MBCT and MBSR incorporate mindfulness practices, they have different therapeutic aims and target populations. MBCT specifically targets preventing depressive relapse, whereas MBSR is more broadly focused on reducing stress and enhancing well-being in various populations.
Thriveworks offers a range of services, in addition to mindfulness cognitive behavioral therapy (MBCT), each designed to meet specific needs. Our goal is to provide the right kind of support for every challenge you may face.
