About
In therapy, I believe that words can have deeper, often surprising meanings you aren't even aware of at first, meanings related to what you're going through, and it is my desire to help uncover those connections to facilitate your improvement.
My name is Josias Pincay. I received my master's degree in Psychology with a Clinical Concentration from the University of Dallas in 2025, a university whose emphasis on the phenomenological and psychoanalytic traditions of psychology provided a well-rounded foundation in approaching patients not as a cluster of symptoms, but as individuals with their own unique histories and ways of being in the world, and whose symptoms are latent with meaning and function (even if dysfunctional).
I lean strongly on the fundamentals of Lacanian psychoanalysis, focusing on HOW you talk about your life and problems to explore the underlying dynamics of a symptom or behavior. The aim is to spark curiosity and awareness of your own thoughts and actions, developing insight and ultimately dealing with the root of the problem rather than its branches.
Taking the step to truly discuss your SELF with someone else is a daunting step, but well worth it, and it is a commendable thing to seek help for yourself instead of staying stuck in the same patterns that have troubled you.

As a child growing up with immigrant parents, I experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating and balancing different cultures.
I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am currently a doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision at St. Mary’s University, with the goal of becoming a counseling professor. I am a culturally integrative LPC-Associate in Texas with clinical experience in university counseling, private group practice, and community clinic settings. I have developed a strong affinity for working with young adults navigating identity development and life transitions, first-generation Asian Americans, and individuals experiencing feeding and eating disorders.
My therapeutic approach is creative and collaborative, incorporating Sandtray and mindfulness-based techniques to help clients explore emotions and experiences that may be difficult to express through words alone. I strive to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported while developing skills to navigate life’s stressors and challenges.
I believe that therapy is a space where you should feel seen, heard, and supported. I strive to create a warm and collaborative environment where you can explore your experiences, emotions, identity, and the challenges you may be navigating. Wherever you are in your journey, I hope to meet you with curiosity, compassion, and without judgment.

Grief and loss counseling helps people grieve difficult losses including the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship. It helps people navigate their grief process and eventually accept, understand, and move forward from their loss. Thriveworks grief therapists in Conroe, TX have specific experience, training, and skills that enable them to best support grieving individuals.
Grief and loss counseling isn’t one-size-fits-all, but it involves sharing about your loss and then working with your counselor to acknowledge and accept your new reality in its wake. Your provider at Thriveworks in Conroe, TX will design your treatment plan around your unique needs and goals for therapy, applying the counseling techniques that best support them.
If you have recently experienced an event like the death of a loved one, a breakup or divorce, the loss of a job, or another major life change, then you may want to seek grief and loss counseling. Grief can be caused by many experiences and events, so if you feel that you are having trouble moving on from a certain event or find that it is still impacting your life and functioning, grief and loss counseling can help you process it more effectively so that you can move on and once again find fulfillment and satisfaction in your life.
There are many counseling theories for treating grief, one of the most frequently used being the dual process model of grief which helps people acknowledge who or what they’ve lost through rumination while also adjusting to the new roles and identities that this loss has now placed on them. There are also many commonly used therapy approaches used in grief and loss counseling, including Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and traumatic grief therapy.
Grief & loss counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
For many, grief and loss counseling lasts for about 6 months. For others, it may last shorter or longer, depending on the severity of their loss and their grief.
