You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. It is the character of growth that we should learn from both pleasant and unpleasant experiences.
I'm a licensed professional counselor with over eight years counseling individuals and families. I hold a B.S. in Psychology, a Minor in Music, and an M.S. in Counseling and Psychology from the University of West Alabama, and an M.A. in Counseling (School Counseling) from UAB. In 2008, I began as a Residential Instructor at Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health, serving at-risk youth. I've worked in psychiatric hospitalization, alternative schools (grades 7–12), adult corrections, community mental health, school-based counseling, and in-home services. My style is experiential and fluid, helping clients discover their potential.
I believe it's an honor to enter the counseling journey with someone, treating each client with curiosity, kindness, and confidence in their ability to heal. As a Certified Specialist in Anger Management (CSAM), I work with trauma, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and life transitions. My approach includes CBT, trauma-focused therapy, DBT, and ACT.

I'm a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker specializing in mood disorders, substance use disorders, and eating disorders. My clients are often high functioning on the outside while struggling internally; managing work, relationships, and responsibilities while battling anxiety, depression, or compulsive coping mechanisms. They want more than symptom management; they're seeking to understand themselves, heal underlying wounds, and build a life that feels sustainable and authentic.
My approach is collaborative and empowering. I don't tell you what to do. I help you access the wisdom and strength you already have. You'll feel supported in a safe space while also being challenged to grow. Together, we shift your focus from what's struggling to what's capable, helping you recognize your own resilience and possibilities.
Taking this step toward healing shows you're ready for real change. The next step is reaching out. When we work together, you won't just manage your struggles, you'll heal the roots of them and build a life that feels authentically yours. I'm genuinely excited to walk this journey with you. Let's begin.

CBT is an effective approach for addressing a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues in children and adults.
Children often benefit from tangible, hands-on techniques, such as thought-challenging exercises, role-playing, and worksheets.
A reduction in the severity or frequency of the child’s presenting symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, or behavioral issues, is a sign of progress.
Spending time with friends and participating in hobbies can be a good way to supplement therapy.
Parents can explain the process of therapy to their child before attending the first child therapy session.
Child therapy, also known as counseling for kids, helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst kids include behavioral issues, trauma, bullying, depression, and anxiety. All ages of children can attend and benefit from child therapy at Thriveworks Birmingham.
Child therapy works by using multiple techniques tailored to fit the child’s needs based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve play therapy for younger kids or cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks child therapists in Birmingham, AL have the expertise and experience to help kids at their level.
Child therapy is a type of therapy meant for clients within a specific age group, while play therapy is an approach to therapy that helps children with self-expression and stress relief, among others. Play therapy is a technique that is often used in child therapy to help children express what’s running through their minds when they do not have the words to express their thoughts and emotions. It can get children to express what’s wrong, what might be causing unwanted behaviors, or what they might need in a way that is accessible to them so that therapists can then work to treat the issue.
It’s not always obvious when a child should see a therapist for their behavior, though in the midst of challenges like divorce, loss, bullying, and other mental health conditions, it’s often a good idea to seek it out. Common behaviors that can indicate a need for child therapy include separation anxiety, bedwetting (at inappropriate ages), and agitation/excessive irritability — especially if it reaches a point of physical violence.
Cognitive behavioral therapy at Thriveworks in Birmingham, AL is one of the best types of therapy for children. However, it can be administered in child therapy sessions in a variety of ways that are more accessible to young minds, such as play therapy.
Child therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of child therapy depends on your child’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, child therapy sessions will last for several months.
