What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy is maintaining engagement and attention. I prefer using online support such as sharing interactive tools or worksheets to enhance the learning experience.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

I teach the same tools in online therapy as in-person therapy, using basic CBT, DBT, and ACT skills. I also incorporate some play therapy for children through interactive therapy games or other cognitive games that can add a little more fun and engagement for all ages.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when they have resolved current problems and are able to manage symptoms through communication and coping skills.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in online therapy with homework like practicing coping and communication skills in between sessions.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first online therapy session, you can provide 3 therapy goals and share any expectations or hopes for therapy you want me to know.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

Need more help deciding?

The psychotherapist David Richo once stated, “Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of us.” He’s absolutely right, but when we’re alone with our feelings, staring into a gaping emotional wound might not sound that inviting. That’s why we conduct these explorations of ourselves and our pasts alongside compassionate, nonjudgmental, helpful guides. These expert guides are mental health professionals like therapists and counselors.

But it’s not always easy to fit therapy into your schedule. Online counseling at Thriveworks in Joliet, IL is a way to talk to a licensed mental health provider from the comfort of your own home in a way that’s secure, safe, affordable, and convenient. Uninsured residents can access Thriveworks’ mental health services here, while residents with insurance can schedule an appointment here (where any out-of-pocket expenses will be covered).

Is Online Counseling Just as Effective as In-person Counseling?

Studies have shown that online counseling can achieve the same beneficial outcomes as in-person counseling. Benefits of online counseling at Thriveworks in Joliet, IL include the following:

  • You can attend therapy sessions without needing to take hours off work to go to and from your appointment.
  • You can often attend online counseling sessions on evenings or weekends, when a clinic is normally closed for business.
  • You can meet with your provider even if one of you is traveling.
  • You may feel more comfortable talking about your life on your own couch, in familiar settings.
  • You can save time, energy, and money by not having to commute to a therapy office.
  • You can pick and choose from a wider variety of counselors in your state, not just in your immediate geographic area.
  • You can attend sessions even if you’re having mobility issues due to a physical or psychiatric issue.

Do Online Therapists Accept Health Insurance?

The licensed online therapists at Thriveworks in Joliet, IL work with insurance companies to get you coverage for your sessions. At Thriveworks, we believe that sessions with a licensed therapist should be affordable. If your insurance doesn’t cover our online therapy services, then we offer competitive out of pocket costs.

I had 6 or 7 sessions with Nancy Fredricks. A lovely lady. However, I had to end my sessions with her. I started becasue I was going through a depression, which was not normal for me. I had never had councelling on my own before. I'd had marriage councelling, but never individual councelling. Nancy did not ask a lot of questions or offer much in the way of practical solutions. Also, Nancy spends a lot of time scratching her head. I'm not sure what her condition is, but it is very distracting to watch during a therapy session. I'm not saying that talking to Nancy didn't help me. But it was not offering enough of a value that I would continue on with it. I wish her a lot of success in the future.

Absolutely unbelievable..I would never on my life have thought that the therapist needs a therapist for her own issues with dealing with people and client feedback. I'm very disappointed with nancy Frederick. She is no where qualified to act as a financial advisor or medical doctor and give unprofessional and non solicited advice.
