Starting Parenting counseling

What is parenting counseling?

Parenting counseling is a form of psychotherapy that specifically targets parenting styles and attachments in order to improve family dynamics. Parenting therapists at Thriveworks in Allentown, PA work to help parents understand their parenting approach, gain insight into what personal feelings and issues might be driving it, and learn to adjust their approach in order to heal family relationships.

How does parenting counseling work?

Parenting counseling takes a look at parents as individuals, working to make connections between certain aspects of their parent styles and past events or influences. By gaining this knowledge about themselves, parents can learn to shift their perspectives and adjust their parenting to better suit their children, spouse, or situation.

Is parenting counseling conducted in person or online?

Parenting counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and through Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does parenting counseling last?

Thriveworks parenting counseling in Allentown, PA can take anywhere from a few months to many years depending on the client and situations needing to be addressed. Simpler goals like how to effectively deal with a teenage child can commonly take under six sessions, but guiding parents through more complex concerns like abuse or trauma can be a much longer process.

Co-Parenting Therapy: What Is It?

Co-parenting occurs when parents who are no longer together as a couple work together as a team for the benefit of their child or children.  Divorce and parental separation can be traumatic and is life-changing for all parties involved.  Co-parenting therapy can help smooth the transition for you and the children.  It allows you to process and understand not only the separation and experience.

Co-parenting therapy can help make the difficult time less difficult by helping both parents and increasing coping skills to work together cooperatively and communicate more effectively in order to parent their children in a respectful and business-like fashion.  To be effective coparents both parents need to make a commitment to their parental obligations and responsibilities to their children.

How Does Co-Parenting Therapy Work?

At Thriveworks-Allentown a co-parenting counselor or therapist will sit down with both parents and work with you to make a plan to parent by leaving out the emotions.  We will help you learn to communicate effectively and develop a business-like relationship for the benefit of your children.  The children’s best interest will be the main focus as you work toward building effective co-parenting skills

I looked around for a therapist for a month or so I found this place and I read and reread the reviews and Lauren’s bio a few times When I finally called a few months ago the woman who took my information and answered my questions, I specifically asked if I needed a new letter for my emotional support dog would they be able to help. She assured me absolutely yes. We do it all the time Now a few months into my sessions I asked Lauren for a letter to give my landlord. Lauren informed me over 3 weeks ago she would ask her boss. 2 weeks later she told me no, her boss said no. I had to go online. A year ago my landlord did not like the online one and wanted it from a local Therapist This past week when I had my appointment with Lauren, she said she couldn’t, i asked what kind of therapist she was. Because I was told when I decided to come to your practice that I could get one, I was told I had to have a few sessions with the therapist Now on Tuesday 2/13 I asked, she told me she was meeting with her boss the next day and would tell him what I was told She said she would email me the next day, now it’s Saturday and nothing. I now am so upset that I put all this time into a therapist that isn’t qualified to write a letter, not because of her, but from some rule that I was lied to about on the onset Now I really think I need to go find a true therapist The fact I’m told to go online to get one from a stranger, while I am in therapy Makes me question your practice In sales we call it bait and switch
