What is your go-to approach for individual therapy?

My preferred approach to individual therapy combines client-centered therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). With client-centered therapy, I establish a nonjudgmental environment where clients can openly share their stories, fostering a sense of being heard and understood. CBT techniques are utilized to help clients identify and challenge any distorted beliefs that may be impacting their well-being. This integrated approach aims to promote self-awareness and empower clients to manage their beliefs that fuel their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors more effectively.

What tools do you teach in individual therapy?

I assist clients in using the CBT triangle to identify underlying beliefs that influence their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Once these beliefs are recognized, clients can work on reframing and distancing themselves from unproductive beliefs. The objective is for clients to cultivate a more positive belief paradigm that enhances their overall well-being.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

I can see a client's progress in therapy when they become more aware of their unhelpful beliefs and shift from negative belief momentum to a more positive outlook. They begin to understand the influence of perspective and recognize their ability to choose which perspectives to give energy to.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement individual therapy?

Clients can improve their ability to manage their emotions by practicing mindfulness and staying present with their feelings. They can view these emotions as signals indicating unhelpful beliefs. During this process, clients can write down these unhelpful beliefs to gain insight into what is ingrained in their belief paradigm and then work on restructuring them.

What should someone do to prepare for starting individual therapy?

Clients can get ready for their therapy intake by reflecting on their personal narratives and identifying significant moments they want to discuss with the clinician. Moreover, researching cognitive behavioral therapy to understand how the dynamics of personality and ego flow can be beneficial.

Starting Individual therapy

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy, also known as individual-counseling, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.

How does individual therapy work?

Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.

Can individual therapy help me?

Yes, individual therapy, also known as individual-counseling, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.

Is individual therapy conducted in person or online?

Individual therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.

Shame on Thrive works. My partner and I have been seeing a therapist and liked her. BUT both last week and this week we drove to Duluth location (35 minutes from my house), waited in the waiting room, only to find out our therapist wasn’t even there!!! Called to inquire why and basically got no reason. I received both the text message confirming my appointment and the emails. What if we were in crisis??? So disappointed with them.

Working with Eboni has truly transformed my life but also the personal love I have for myself. I’d thought I was need of therapy due to stress from my job. After a few months I realize that I was going to be tackling more than just work issues. Eboni was absolutely phenomenal in her quietness when I needed to see myself and determine the truth behind any problems I was trying to work through. I’m so much better because of it and I’m so happy that I made the decision to start. Though I still have a lot to work on;I can already see a difference and so can everyone else! Thank you Eboni!!

My counselor, Eboni, is amazing and finds different ways using different resources to help me seek better insight. She is highly recommended if you are looking for someone to deal with self-esteem and anger management issues.
