What is the Gottman Method of couples therapy?

The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.

How to tell if I need couples therapy?

If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.

While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.

More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

Need more help deciding?

The decision to seek counseling or therapy services is an independent choice that needs to be made between both partners. But when you do decide to team up with a mental health professional, it can alleviate the burden that both of you are sharing, and open you up to a professional’s perspective on your shared issues. Some common indications that you’re experiencing unhealthy relationship dynamics include:

  • Lying and other forms of emotional manipulation
  • Avoiding physical touch or sex
  •  Passive-aggressive or abusive behavior
  • Inability to respect each other’s boundaries
  • Cheating
  • Arguments that last for hours or days

Keep in mind that your relationship is unique—you may have a different, but still equally detrimental situation occurring. Don’t feel like you can’t share what’s going on with your couples therapist or marriage counselor. The more you tell them, the better they’ll be able to assist you with repairing the relationship you hold close.

At Thriveworks in Pasadena, TX, our marriage counselors and couples therapists are here to help you both find common ground and healing. Contact our office to get started today.

The Benefits of Relationship Counseling

Thriveworks helped me realize that I do believe people can change. I’m not the person I was three months ago, broken and fearful. I’m healthy and happy and for the first time being kind to myself. Thank you for giving me my life back.
