Starting Codependency therapy

What is codependency therapy?

Codependency therapy with our Thriveworks Grand Rapids Charter Township therapists helps people reduce and overcome codependent habits, which involve sacrificing one’s own needs to meet the needs of others (usually those closest to them). It helps to improve one’s well-being as well as the health of their relationships.

How does codependency therapy work?

Codependency therapy works by helping the individual recognize, understand, and accept codependent patterns — including why and how they might’ve developed. In addition, it focuses on helping the individual to kick these tendencies and build more balanced relationships that allow them to support others without neglecting their own needs.

Is codependency therapy conducted in person or online?

Codependency therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does codependency therapy last?

Codependent counseling can last for a few weeks, months, or longer. It depends on the exact needs of the client as well as the severity of their codependent challenges and other needs or preferences.

Codependency and Dependent Personality Disorder Therapy in Grand Rapids

If you feel you or someone close to you might benefit from counseling for Codependency or Dependent Personality Disorder therapy, read on to learn more about the common signs to look out for with these psychological disorders and the sort of help that exists to combat these negative behavioral patterns.

And when you’re ready, reach out to Thriveworks Grand Rapids to start working with a therapist who can help you improve your ability to be self-sufficient—in all types of relationships.

Common Signs to Be Aware of

Some common symptoms of codependency include:

  • Low self-worth and self-esteem?
  • Relying heavily on another person, particularly in romantic relationships
  • A need to feel indispensable to others
  • Targeting blame on other people in relationships of all types
  • One’s entire world revolving around the other person in a relationship?
  • An intense and unhealthy level of attachment to romantic partners

We are all only too aware of the fact that signs of dependency can and do exist in every loving relationship—it is important to remember this and not to start to feel that this is unhealthy. It is when dependency crosses over into the realm of unhealthy ‘codependency’ when there are any potential issues in life.

I am loving Thriveworks not only for the convenience of virtual appointments, but this is the first place I’ve tried that has actually helped. My therapist is incredibly kind and helpful and is amazing at helping me with any issues I’m struggling with. They paired me with a therapist that is experienced in the specific areas I needed help with, and it has been wonderful. I would absolutely recommend Thriveworks!

I was in need of a psychiatrist for chronic depression and anxiety. I came across thrive having only a 4 month wait instead 9 to 12 month wait with any other psychiatrist. This was wonderful news. I met Denise as my clinician. She is very empathetic very knowledgeable. She has helped me alot sine my first vist. She is very dedicated to her patients which I truly appreciate. I would highly recommend her for any psychiatric needs. I think she goes above and beyond her role. She is a caring individual. There should be more people like Denise. She needs to be recognized for her work.
