What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go to approach for helping people in online therapy is using telehealth via Zoom.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

I teach the following tools in online therapy, CBT, Narrative therapy and cognitive reframing.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when they are making progress on their treatment plan goals.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in online therapy with consistently practicing their techniques and completing their assigned homework.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first online therapy session, you can be willing to be honest and committed.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

Need more help deciding?

Asking for help when it comes to your mental health isn’t something to be ashamed of. In fact, you’ve probably received guidance in one form or another already. Have you ever been a member of a sports or dance team? Have you ever sought out advice or support from a friend? Have you ever confided in a co-worker when you needed help? Have you ever seen a doctor for a sickness or physical injury? Most likely you answered yes to one, if not all, of those questions. So, if asking a friend, doctor, coach, or mentor for help when you need it is okay, why should going to a therapist be seen any differently?

Every now and then, quite unintentionally, someone taught you something about yourself. – Ian McEwan

Thanks to modern-day technology, you can get support and guidance from a trusted therapist or counselor all from the comfort of your own home. If you are in Dumont, NJ and you’re in search of mental health services, consider working with an online counselor at Thriveworks. Sometimes we need the help of an unbiased outsider to get through difficult challenges. Luckily, it’s easier than ever before to do so. Don’t let the problems in your life prevent you from living the life you want and deserve. Give us a call to get started.

What Are My Options for Online Counseling?

Getting started with online counseling is a lot easier than it may seem. All you need is access to a phone, computer, or other electronic device that allows you to connect to the internet. Here at Thriveworks Counseling, you can choose between two great, reliable options. They are…

  1. Telephone Counseling: This option allows you to work with your counselor over the phone instead of in-person. If you decide to schedule a telephone counseling session, your counselor will give you a call at the agreed-upon appointment time. All you have to do is answer.
  2. Video Counseling: Video counseling simply allows you to work with your counselor in a video chat room rather than in-person. If you choose this online counseling option, you’ll be sent a secure video link to click and join at the time of your appointment

But What if My Counselor Can’t Help Me Virtually?

At Thriveworks, our online counselors can provide you with the mental health help you’re looking for—the virtual environment does not stunt progress or growth in therapy. The only major difference is that you’re not physically in the same room with them. This means that no matter your concern, you can trust that your specific challenges can be helped. Here is a comprehensive list of the services that our clients enjoy online…

  • Family therapy
  • Couples therapy
  • Marriage counseling
  • Child therapy
  • Addiction counseling
  • Depression therapy
  • Anxiety therapy
  • Grief counseling
  • Life coaching
  • Trauma therapy
  • Anger management
  • Stress management

The list could go on. Even if you’re not exactly sure why you’re feeling the way you are or if there are too many things going on in your life to pinpoint, we can help you navigate those difficult emotions and help you understand the root cause of your issues.

The Benefits of Online Counseling

As you may have gathered already, there are many perks to choosing online counseling. To help you learn about them more, we put together this list of benefits of online counseling:

  1. Comfort – Talk to your counselor from your bed, the coffee shop, or wherever you feel the best to do so.
  2. Convenience – Your counselor is essentially right in your pocket. No more driving across town to sit in an office. Just simply pick up the phone or open your computer.
  3. Reliability – Outside factors like bad weather or late meetings won’t affect your appointment time.
  4. Effectiveness – Worried that you won’t receive the same level of care? Don’t be! Online counseling is proven to be just as effective as traditional in-person therapy.

I am a recently retired licensed clinical social worker with 45 plus years of experience in that field of practice. I attended undergraduate school with Michael Martin and have continued to maintain contact with him since that time. Michael has consistently impressed me as a caring, knowledgeable and empathic individual who has brought these traits into his practice as a psychotherapist. He speaks very positively about his work and his satisfaction in assisting the individuals he provides services for on their behalf. In conclusion, I strongly recommend considering Michael as ones' psychotherapist.
