At an early age I became aware that helping others was a passion of mine and something I wanted to share with others.

Starting Stress management therapy

What type of therapy do I need for stress?

Thriveworks offers Stress management therapy, a type of therapy that helps people learn how to effectively manage and release their stress through the use of relaxation techniques, time-management practices, and mindfulness, among others. Relieving stress can greatly improve an individual’s mental health, as stress can detrimentally affect one’s emotional and physical well-being.

How does stress management therapy work?

Stress management therapy functions by identifying the source(s) of stress and the thoughts, emotions, and experiences that are tied to it, then addressing them and creating healthy strategies for dealing with stress on a long-term basis. Additionally, Stress management therapy also helps people discover what warning signs they have that can let them know that they are stressed so that they can be more proactive in managing it.

What is the most effective therapy for stress management?

The effectiveness of stress management therapy can vary from person to person, but some widely used and effective approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and relaxation techniques.

What are 5 stress management strategies?

Five stress management counseling strategies include:

  • Deep breathing: Practice deep, slow breathing exercises to calm your body’s stress response.
  • Exercise: Regular physical activity can help reduce stress and improve your overall well-being.
  • Mindfulness meditation: Engage in mindfulness or meditation practices to stay present and reduce anxiety.
  • Time management: Organize your tasks and priorities to minimize stress related to time pressures.
  • Social support: Share your feelings and concerns with friends or a therapist for emotional support and problem-solving.

Should you go to therapy for stress?

Whether to seek therapy for stress depends on the severity and impact of the stress on your life. If stress is significantly affecting your well-being, relationships, or daily functioning, therapy can be a helpful option to learn coping strategies and gain support. It’s important to assess your own needs and consult a mental health professional for guidance on whether therapy is appropriate for your situation.

Does stress management help anxiety?

Yes, stress management counseling can help significantly reduce the amount of anxiety that you feel.

Is stress management therapy conducted in person or online?

Stress management treatment at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does stress management therapy last?

For those with low amounts of anxiety and stress and simple goals, stress management therapy can be fewer than 12 sessions. However, for those with intense anxiety and more severe symptoms, therapy will likely last longer in order to effectively treat their stress and mitigate their symptoms.

Stress Management in Columbus, OH—Counselors, Therapists, and Life Coaches

Thriveworks Columbus counselors have years of experience working with stress and can teach and walk beside you as you learn your own stress levels and best strategies for managing it. Reach out today to get started.

Why Am I So Stressed?

Thriveworks Columbus wants you to know that the emotions and behaviors you’re experiencing are completely valid. Anything can cause stress: money, relationships, or life changes are a few examples. Unmanaged stress hardly looks like stress. Some signs of it include:

  • Constantly avoiding confrontation (initiating the “flight” response)
  • Angry outbursts or aggressive behavior (initiating the “fight” response)
  • chronic headaches
  • joint pain
  • upset stomach
  • easily triggered anger
  • irritability
  • panic attacks
  • feeling overwhelmed
  • trouble sleeping and/or nightmares
  • memory loss
  • impulsive behavior

Stress doesn’t have to control you anymore. With a little professional help, you can get the peace you deserve.

What Does Stress Management Counseling Look Like?

Sometimes, people will try to change their circumstances to get rid of stress. Changing circumstances can be a vital part of stress management. However, stress will always find a way to come back. You could be chasing stress out of your life for the rest of your life! To fully have control of your stress, you have to change, not just your environment.

Some ways we can do this include:

  • Learn mindful and relaxation techniques for when you are in a stressful moment
  • Proactively plan stress relievers
  • Talk through any underlying problems that may be causing stress
  • Practice healthy habits like getting enough sleep, exercise, and healthy nutrition
  • Build a strong social support group
  • Learn to identify stress before it gets to be overwhelming and ways to stop it from growing
  • Pick out negative thoughts that may be driving stress, and learn to replace them

I recently started utilizing Thriveworks and my counselor is amazing! I have seen a few therapists over the years, but she is the first that I feel has real tools that work for me. I am an overly analytical person, and she has introduced me to so many new ways to think about various problems, new and old, that have given me a fresh perspective. Today was the second day in my short time here that I left with that "mind blown" feeling, and today I couldn’t believe the positive feelings I had on these new approaches she provided me. Also, which is the best part of course, the office is so peaceful and calming, the staff are all incredible, and just walking in the door makes me de-stress quite a bit. I definitely recommend giving Thriveworks a shot if you are looking for a welcoming place! Go Buckeyes!
