Starting Anger management therapy

Can you get a therapist for anger issues?

Yes, there are therapists who help with anger via Anger management therapy. It’s a therapeutic process that an individual goes through to manage their anger and identify its triggers. They’re given clear instructions on how to improve their angry behavior as well as a safe space for opening up about their emotions.

How does anger management therapy work?

Once an individual’s triggers are identified, anger management therapy focuses on helping the individual process and respond to these emotions in a more positive and productive manner. The anger management therapist will provide coping strategies and ultimately help their client take back control of their anger.

What are the 5 keys to controlling anger?

The five keys to mastering anger include identifying triggers, pausing before reacting, calmly expressing emotions, discovering constructive outlets for frustration, and seeking professional assistance if necessary. Acquiring these skills through Anger management therapy empowers individuals to effectively manage and navigate their anger.

What is the best therapy for anger management?

The best therapy for anger management often involves cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps individuals identify and change patterns of thinking and behavior related to anger.

Is anger management therapy conducted in person or online?

Anger management therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How many sessions do I need for anger management?

Often, Anger management therapy lasts between 4-6 weeks. However, it can last longer, dependent on the individual’s needs.

What Is Anger Management Counseling? Can It Help?

In any setting, anger management helps people identify when they are beginning to feel angry, relax, and then respond appropriately. Ideally, the individual should be able to stay in control of their behaviors. Now, you might need some anger management help if the following list describes you:

  • You struggle or fail to hold back your angry outbursts
  • You always focus on the negatives, never the positives
  • You become irritated and frustrated quickly
  • You constantly argue with others
  • You even get physically violent with others
  • You go as far as damaging property
  • You engage in overall reckless behavior

If you do struggle to keep your anger in check, don’t worry. A lot of people have anger issues, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. However, you should take it seriously and get the help that you need to control it. You can find that help here at Thriveworks Atlanta.

How Does Counseling for Anger Management Work?

Anger management can be worked on in individual therapy as well as couples therapy and group therapy. For example, if your anger is impacting your loved ones, your counselor might recommend they come to counseling with you (at least for a session or two). In addition, the duration of treatment will depend on your specific needs. It could last several weeks or several months; your counselor will assess your needs and then make a recommendation.

When you start counseling for anger management, your Thriveworks counselor will work with you to identify your triggers and (as we mentioned earlier) better understand when you’re starting to experience anger.

Overall, the experience has been good but my nurse practitioner forgot to refill my medication prescription before Christmas and now I’m out, waiting for everyone to get back from the holidays. I understand mistakes happen, but it super important to not forget to refill patient medications … that is something I don’t think deserves a lot of wiggle room for mistakes because it so fundamental to this profession.
