My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy is the same as it would be for in-person therapy! I utilize the same modalities, whether I'm meeting with someone online or in person, and typically my go-to approach will include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT is a type of therapy that can be helpful for a lot of people to examine how their thoughts play a role in how they've been feeling, which is often relevant for people facing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and a variety of other issues.
When providing online therapy, the tools that I teach will vary greatly depending on what brings the person to therapy. I want each client to feel like they're receiving tools to help them with their unique situation, and I help each client create personal treatment goals when we first start meeting. Some of the tools that I teach include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) tools, to help clients learn how to control their thinking more effectively and manage any unhelpful or negative thoughts. I can also teach mindfulness strategies, which help with keeping our thoughts more centered in the moment and feeling more content with being in the present. I also provide psychoeducation to clients about various topics depending on what's relevant to them, which can include communication-related tools, exploring how to improve interpersonal relationships, and learning other specific coping strategies for managing stress, anxiety, depression, etc.
I know a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when they are reporting that they are noticing less of their current symptoms, and feeling lighter, happier, or more clearheaded! When clients report that they are using the tools and coping strategies that they've learned in sessions, this is also a great sign that they're actively making changes toward their personal goals for therapy.
Clients can supplement their time in online therapy by spending time prioritizing their own individual needs. This can include practicing more self-care, spending more time focusing on hobbies or interests, spending more time with loved ones, and of course practicing the tools that they've been learning in therapy to help improve their mental health!
To prepare for your first online therapy session, make sure that you have a quiet space where you will be uninterrupted during your session and have a good internet connection! Your therapist will ask you a lot of questions in your first session to get to know more about what brings you to therapy, so be prepared to talk about some of your reasons for wanting to start therapy and share about how your mental health has been in recent history.
With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.
Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.
There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.
Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.
Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
The stresses and challenges of everyday life can quickly take a toll on both the mind and spirit. Consider the single parent struggling to raise her children and working full time. Or the student juggling a long distance relationship, a full course load, and high anxiety about their future career path. Or the grandparents, newly retired, facing physical illness and intimacy issues.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your own struggles or are fed up with trying to handle them on your own, Thriveworks Counseling may be a great next step. Therapy can help you heal past traumas, resolve relationship issues and deal with important life decisions. In short, it can help you regain a sense of balance and happiness in your life.
Online counseling options are on the rise and make the most sense for many working professionals and busy parents. The convenience of online sessions eliminates the drive time for commuters and accommodates those who may otherwise be unable to attend in-person appointments. Plus, online counseling can help newcomers feel more at ease as they get started from the comfort of their own.
If you’re feeling “stuck” in your life and are ready to make a change, consider making an appointment with Thriveworks in Paramus, NJ. Online counseling services may be the best gift you can give yourself this year.
Traditional therapy sessions and online mental health services offer many of the same benefits. However, there are certain instances when someone may not be able to pursue traditional therapy sessions in an office, at least at the onset.
Perhaps they don’t feel comfortable meeting in-person with a licensed mental health professional and need some time to warm up to the idea of counseling. Or maybe they may have scheduling conflicts because they have children or an on-the-clock job that makes in-person therapy appointments less convenient.
Whatever the reason, our licensed counselors in Paramus realize that flexibility is such a significant part of seeking therapy, so we are happy to offer online counseling services that cover a range of mental health needs, such as:
If you’ve been thinking about seeking therapy but can’t seem to make it work in your schedule, online counseling may be a great option for you.
Digital technology has transformed the way individuals receive mental health therapy. Instead of only relying on face-to-face appointments, our Paramus counselors are available by video chat, phone calls, email, and text message when you need to talk.
The length of an online therapy session will depend on your unique needs and your counselor’s recommendations for treatment. You can schedule regular meetings with one of our online therapists similar to traditional therapy, which typically range between 45 to 60 minutes per session, but you can also access our online counselors during the week or weekend if you need additional support.
Our Paramus therapists treat mental health issues as effectively online as they could face-to-face, especially as it pertains to depression, social anxiety, panic disorders, couples counseling, and so on. When you schedule an appointment on our website or by phone (more on that below), you can choose which counselor you’d like to meet with, as well as how you’d like to meet with them — online, in person, or a combination of both.
Having multiple options for therapy services is what makes Thriveworks so unique. You can finally have control over your mental health journey with our flexible and convenient approach to care.
Whether you are looking for online counseling opportunities by phone or video, Thriveworks has an opening for you. We offer early morning, late evening, and weekend appointments to help accommodate even the most difficult scheduling challenges. New clients can typically get an appointment within 24 hours so you can get help quickly.
Our providers and online counseling professionals are available by email and phone between appointments. Clients also have access to moderated community discussion and “Dear Abby” style Q&As to get answers to pressing questions.
